    Farrah Fawcett: Celebrity Hairstyle Icon

    Hollywood’s Golden Girl, Farrah Fawcett 1947 – 2009

“Farrah Fawcett Hairstyle”Actress Farrah Fawcett passed away June 25th after a long battle with cancer. I wasn’t able to write about her earlier but thought I would just add a few words on her now. If you didn’t know who Farrah Fawcett was (if you didn’t know who she was you would have had to been living under a rock!), she was a pop culture phenomenon whose celebrity hairstyle was envied and emulated by millions of women and still is to this day. Sadly, in the past few years, Farrah had been diagnosed with cancer, thought she was cancer free after a few months of treatment; only to find out it was back again.

The Farrah Fawcett Hairstyle was arguably the Most Famous Celebrity Hairstyle of all time.
Although Farrah Fawcett’s career spanned over three decades, her most memorable role was probably as Jill Monroe in Charlie’s Angels in the 1970’s. At that time, her hairstyle, became the most famous celebrity hairstyle of its day. The funny thing is, that a new slightly different version of the Farrah Fawcett hairstyle, is once again topping the best hairstyles list. Now however, we tone it down a bit.

Even though big hair has made a comeback, we don’t take big to the extreme that it was done in the 70’s. What we have copied from this hugely popular celebrity hairstyle is the layering and curling the layers away from the face. Now we are even cutting bangs into these long layered hairstyles. However, the bangs are styled and sometimes cut differently now than in the 70’s, which is part of what updates the Farrah Fawcett hairstyle.

Farrah Fawcett’s California-girl good looks and celebrity status made her an icon well into her last months with us. Recently she made a reality documentary called ‘Farrah’s Story.’ This documentary tells of her well-known battle with cancer, hoping it may be of some help to others that may be faced with this horrid disease. The documentary was shown on NBC and can be found at the networks website.

    Best Hair Salons Using Twitter

    Best Hair Salons
Some of the Best Hair Salons are Using Twitter to Attract New Business

Although I make a living in new technologies, I’m a greenhorn when it comes to the technology of the almighty up and coming,”Twitter.” But I’ve been a greenhorn by choice. Avoidance is a better description for it, I’ve most definitely avoided becoming a social net-worker. . . I mean, who has time for that??

    “Best Hair Salons
    Using Twitter”
I find it baffling to hear the number of Industries as well as normal folks, hopping on board the Twitter bandwagon. As an example . . . it was reported today that starting July 19th, Best Buy Company, the world’s largest electronics retailer, will begin searching Twitter posts to answer people’s questions about electronics, such as flat-panel televisions. Chief Marketing Officer Barry Judge, says more than 500 employees at stores and at the company’s Minneapolis headquarters are signed up to participate, as reported in the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “This is a fairly inexpensive way to reach out to customers and to leverage the downtime of people in the stores,” says Scott Tilghman, an analyst with a New York research firm.

So today I’ve learned something new . . . some people in the best hair salons in my industry have found the value of “tweeting”! Gary Lambert Salon and Spa, in Winter Park, Florida, named one of the Top 10 Best Hair Salons in Central Florida, has found a way to make social networking work for his salon. At a time when everyone is trying to save a buck when ever possible, Gary found that “tweeting” has been a great addition to traditional advertising.

One way the hair salon is reaping rewards from their efforts, is by “tweeting” their followers when a cancellation occurs and offering a discount to the client who fills it. “We get calls within minutes,” Lampert says, it’s been a huge asset to us,” American Salon reports.

    Now THAT baffles me! As a salon owner, you can’t pay for that kind of advertising! Gary was out of town, so I wasn’t able to speak with him but Heather said she would try to answer a few questions I had on “tweeting” in the hair salon;

How did you get the word out to prospective “tweeters”?
“We started with a group of local friends.” You can request they follow you and they’ll receive emails you send out immediately.

    How do they find you?
Gary started by using email addresses he had and if they are members of Twitter, or will become members, they can get your “tweets’ in real time.

How do your Twitter friends grow?
“The best way to describe it is the idea of, six degrees of separation,” said Heather. You follow someone, who has a friend who follows you, who has a friend who follows you and you follow them and so on . . . and so on . . .

Don’t know about you, but I will probably be taking another look at my ‘avoidance’ issues about social networking. Gary Lamperts Salon and Spa, posts new promotions as well as salon news to his Twitter friends. He reports he has found ‘tweeting’ has brought the best hair salon new clientele as well as filling in otherwise downtime . . .  now that’s something to ‘tweet’ about!!

    No Shampoo Hair Cleansing Conditioner

Woman shampooing her hair with 2 in 1 shampoo

    WEN New No-Shampoo Hair Cleansing

Chaz Dean, a successful L.A. hairdresser to the stars, came here to Minneapolis/St.Paul to the Mall of America, last weekend but I missed his appearance . . . pooh! Or should I say . . . no pooh? Chaz has invented the first (that I’ve heard of anyways) no shampoo hair shampoo, so to speak. I’ve written no shampoo hair articles in the past, on how popular the idea of no shampoo hair cleansing has become, but basically there was no hair care product involved, just a technique.

What can this mean you say? No shampoo hair cleansing? Well, Chaz wouldn’t call it a ‘shampoo’ at all! However, he has concocted a hair care product line that claims to work “exceptionally well” in cleansing and hydrating the hair and it’s NOT a shampoo!

“Shampoos contain so many harmful ingredients from detergents, sulfates and surfactants that not only build up with continual use, but are simply bad for the scalp and hair,” Dean explains. “This is why so many women struggle with premature loss of color, frizzies, dullness, dryness, hair loss and many other forms of hair damage.”

Chaz started concocting his mixtures from his own garden in 1993, using herbs and extracts like lavender, rosemary, sage, apples, bananas and pears. He says he hasn’t used a ‘shampoo’ in his own hair since. It took him five years to bring WEN Hair & Body Care, to market and he has been a regular on QVC ever since. He also has a celebrity list of users that includes Halle Berry and Teri Hatcher with a number of them giving testimonials on his website

There is an instructional video on YouTube showing how to use WEN. Chaz says,” The main thing with Wen is people think of it as conditioner-that it’s going to weigh down the hair. But the more you use, the better the results. It’s like skin care, use it more in the beginning to make your hair more hydrated and manageable.”

What do I think? Well, there are lots of reasons to believe that we will see better and better hair care products developed for the hair and skin and that they will involve getting away from chemicals we don’t need, like sulfates and harmful detergents. Let’s say . . . I’m hopeful, but sorry I just haven’t tried it. However, there are plenty of people who have tried it and if you go to, you’ll find that it gets a 4 out of 5 star rating after 87 reviews and there are many more at wen reviews. That’s good! You can buy the Wen Cleanser now at Amazon, check it out for yourself and let us know what you think!
