Kid’s Back to School Hairstyles – Include Fair Hair?

Back to School Hairstyles

Summer fun then back to school hairstyles

It’s State Fair time again and the thought of a back to school hairstyle is reluctantly on the minds of just about every kid you see. State fair hairdo’s, carnival hair, rainbow hairstyle creations, you’ve seen the ones I’m talking about, there b-a-c-k!  Whew! First time I saw these hairstyle creations, I was creeped out! Not only was ‘fair hair’ a little creepy, but it looked like these do’s, which resembled neon colored, ratted up birds nests that glitter, had to be an absolute nightmare to get out of the hair! So what’s the attraction?

“Summer Hair then Back to School Hairstyles”The way I figure, kid’s find the idea of looking eerie and creepy and the opportunity to stand out in the crowd for a day, overwhelmingly tempting and work their charms to convince the folks to open their wallets for the cause. This last hurrah to do something a little wild and crazy before getting serious about a back to school hairstyle.

So after some years of seeing these, I find the ‘fair hairdo’s’ don’t creep me out as much anymore. I now find them pretty cute and ‘fairy’ like, on the little ones. Although I haven’t seen the doing of the do’s, I do see them everywhere at the fair. My best guess is they go up quick and pretty easy so they only cost a fraction of the cost of legitimate updos. Most of the little ones I see have the high riding ponies with the use of lots of neon colored holding hair spray and some glitter to top it off. (I hope it’s only spray and glitter and not loads of backcombing . . . horrors!)

The kids are lining up already to get their back to school hairstyle ‘fair hairdo’s’. Choosing to wear these hairstyles seem to have become a passage of sorts . . . one last wild fling before heading back to school! Back to school hairstyles come in every shape, color and form, and these hairstyles are part of the mix!

Hottest Fall Hair Trends

Hair Trends for Fall

How can we be talking about hair trends for fall already? Wasn’t it just a minute ago we were all psyched up about high lighting for summer and getting those summer up-do’s, tips and tricks down for another hot & humid season?? Here we come, ready or not. Fall is right around the corner and I guess it’s that time again to change things up. It’s time to get the bleached out blondes toned down and the burnt out brunettes and redheads ripened up a bit.

“Anthony Barrow’s Take on Hair Trends”Recently famed celebrity hairstylist, Anthony Barrow, answered my questions regarding hair trends for fall. Anthony is a regular at New York Fashion Week and the London ready-to-wear shoes. He is a five-time British Hairdresser Awards finalist, famed Avon Fashion Week hairstylist and was recently featured on Bravo’s new hit series, Make Me a Super Model.

Here is one celebrity hairstylists take on what’s hot and what’s not for hair trends this fall!

What’s this Fall’s hottest hair trends?

“This season is all about classic shapes with modern textures. Fall is all about loose, twisty texture and movement for the hair.”

What hair trends should we letting let go of?

“Blonde is out- Bronde (not quite blonde, but lighter than brunette) is in!”

What are the biggest mistakes you see women make with their hair?

“Over styling the hair. Keeping the hair hydrated and healthy is essential to create a beautiful look. I suggest a treatment mask like the Advanced Techniques Intense Repair Moisture Mask to restore moisture to dry and brittle strands.”

What are your favorite styling tools?

“I am loving flat irons, but use caution because overuse can lead to styling-induced hair damage.”

What’s your favorite, can’t do without, hair care product and hair styling product?

“Hair spray! It helps hold a look, and enhances shine and texture.”

Anthony also suggests that in this tough economy, you may be able to stretch your dollars by sticking with hairstyles that grow out well and by wearing high lights closer to your own natural shade. Stay up with all the happenings in hair trends by following our Pinterest Hair Trends Board.

Rock n Roll Haircuts are here to stay

Rock n Roll Hair

Rock n Roll Haircuts . . . It’s official, barbershops are definitely on a comeback

My favorite things are mixed up in the creation of this new hair establishment. They have used creativity, art, music and a unique concept all their own, in putting this new rock n roll hair digs together.
“Rock n Roll Haircuts”

Owners, Michael Portman and Jayson Rapaport, are corporate business dropouts and old friends, who decided to put a little more fun in their lives. Portman, previously a writer in LA and Rapaport who worked on Wall Street, put their heads together and came up with the concept; a hair salon that’s also a music venue.

One thing Michael and Jayson wanted to bring to market was a place for the guys to go. “We want guys to feel like Norm walking into Cheers. And we’re a no-appointment establishment because we know guys don’t wanna make appointments. They just want to walk in and get it done on the way back from the Home Depot.”

So, throwing tradition to the wind,“Birds Barbershop” was created. They hired local interior design guru, Joel Mozersky, who was responsible for, “Real World : Austin,” on MTV. His artistic flair, using black walls, lighting you might see at a rock n roll concert, and a stage where live music or a DJ sometimes performs, all add to a give it that local nightclub feel that Austin has in its blood.

Most unique to the shops charm might arguably be, a 40 foot screen printed mural, by local artist Bryan Keplesky, as you enter the rock n roll hair cuts shop. But, also as you are waiting for a new coif, you can play foosball, read funky comics and great magazines, use Wi-Fi, or if a band isn’t on stage, kick back and groove on some cool tunes from the custom sound system or Jukebox. Maybe that’s why so many folks like to “hang out all day.” And the no-appointment concept works for everyone.

Quality service at a decent price was a high priority for these folks. Here are some prices, as of this writing;

  • Mohawk . . . . $15.00

  • Rockstar . . . $25.00

  • Basic Men’s . . . $ 19.00

  • Straight Razor Shave . . . $19.00

  • Ladybird . . . $39.00 ( shampoo, cut, style)

Birds Barbershop opened in May and portrays the welcoming of both genders in its name. (Bird, as slang for the feminine) They have both barbers and hairdressers on staff. Even though it’s not explicitly for men, it does cater more to a mans’ liking than the typical hair salon.

These folks instinctively knew Austin was the town to embrace them. “Austin inspires and rewards innovation,” says Portman.
