Enjoy Spring & LOVE Your Hair with these Easy Hair Color Tips!

Spring is a perfect opportunity to brighten up your look with a little hair color. Whether you’re going on the lighter side, by adding highlights, or getting bold with a hot new color, it’s always in style to keep your hair bright and shiny. With the right hair care routine, you can embrace beautiful color and still enjoy healthy, vibrant hair.

    Lighten Up

Spring can often inspire blondes to go blonder, or brunettes to embrace shades of caramel, cocoa, or other soft highlights. But with lighter color, can often come extra damage. To keep your hair healthy, it’s important to do weekly conditioning treatments. To protect from damage from color, be sure to find a conditioner that’s rich in protein to help rebuild hair structure. For best results, apply conditioner on towel dried hair; hit it with the blowdryer for thirty seconds and wrap in a towel; rinse with cool water after 10 to 15 minutes. Brighten Up

This spring, vibrant hair color is a definite hit. But nothing is worse than when your bright, beautiful color turns dull and drab after a few washes. Be sure to keep color bright by paying closer attention to your hair washing routine. When shampooing hair, try to keep the water cooler, as hot water opens the cuticle and causes color to wash out more quickly. Also, using color protect shampoo and conditioner is a definite must! If you have all-over bright color, you can try a color enhancing shampoo, that actually deposits color back into your hair while you wash. Freshen Up

If you’re soaking up spring at the beach or pool, you’re skin may be glowing, but you may notice your hair color looking duller. Freshen up your color with a glaze to add shine. You can opt for a glaze with color, to enhance your natural locks, or go for a subtle change of color (add a hint of cherry to dark brown hair), a clear glaze is another option just to add shine. Ask your hairstylist about the benefits of a glaze–and you may get hooked even after spring is over. (Redken Shades EQ; Paul Mitchell PM Shines)

    Change it Up

If your blonde is taking on a shade of gold, or your once honey colored locks are looking drab, a toner is a great option to make blonde hair look healthier and richer. It’s amazing how a subtle tonal change can turn a dull complexion into radiant skin. The best part? A toner can be done at the shampoo bowl in 15 minutes or less! Consult with your stylist on whether a toner is the right option for your hair.

Beautiful, vibrant hair isn’t just for hair models and celebrities. Your hair can be healthy, bold, and shiny with just a few extras in your beauty arsenal. Enjoy spring, and love your hair with these easy tips for healthy hair and beautiful hair color.

Ashlee’s deep brown hair was enhanced with a combination of two demi-permanent hair colors for this effect. Demi-permanent hair colors are not as damaging and will leave the hair with lots of shine.

Jessica Alba- aarrrg . . . too gold!

Jessica Alba’s natural hair coloris brown and high lights of caramel and golden brown add just the right balance of warmth to her skin tone. Brown hair high lighting looks best with using the depth of her natural base and warming it up from there. This totally golden blonde hair color is a disaster with her skin tone.

    Hair Color: Try Some Contrast

This Short Blonde Hairstyle Shows Off The Dark Roots

To Update Your Look, Try Hair Color Tones That Don’t Usually go Together

Hair stylists are playing with contradiction in hair color. But don’t think that contrast creates clash. According to Rafe Hardy, artistic creative director at Sexy Hair, each aspect complements the other, producing a yin and yang of classic looks with unanticipated, head-turning elements. “Bold, geometric shapes reminiscent of the 1960’s hairstyles and the bright hair colors of the 1980’s, but with new touches that add softness and artistic flair,” he says. Check out these hair color ideas to see how it works.

Darker roots are back and if you have a lot of attitude, the more contrast-y the better! The look is most popular in short blonde cuts that are layered for movement and dimension. To give the darker roots even more exposure; rake strands to the side and separate them with pomade.
A Brunette Bob Hairstyle Blonde Highlight Streaks

Mixing up light and dark hair colors and positioning them close together makes darker hair look a little lighter than it really is. This brunette bob takes to blonde highlight streaks that move off the part line. Widely spaced highlights result in a fresher look that’s also less expensive to maintain than tightly spaced highlights.
Blonde with long hair and spiraled curls

Textural contrast comes into play when smooth hair in front and on top is combined with curls everywhere else. It’s also easier to do than if you put texture on top. Just blow-dry as usual, then use a curling iron to spiral up the length. Make the effect even bolder by wrapping some strands toward your face and others away from it.
Long hair with two toned hair color: light on top dark on bottom

If you have a flair for drama, have your long hair two toned with brunette at the bottom and blonde on top. Worn straight, the look is more striking; it’s a bit subtler when you blend the colors by iron-curling longer lengths. Consider hair extensions for the darker hair color shade if you don’t want to make a permanent commitment.
Hairstyle with three toned hair color

    Triple Play

You can mix up warm and cool colors when you break away from three tones that stay in the same family. To get the look, have your hair colorist choose a dominant hair color shade that works with your skin tone, whether warm or cool. Then place the opposite element close to your face but not directly against it. Here, the warmer red streak is cushioned with a cool blonde.
