These days, when it comes to hair color, anything goes, from permanent fire engine red highlights to a temporary hair chalk pastel pink strand, everywhere you turn there is a rainbow of hair color possibilities. The most popular seems to be the love of green hair – not the shade but the eco friendly hair products.

Many hair care lines are making a strong effort to keep Mother Earth as beautiful and manageable as our lovely locks an are taking an interest in the over all health of their customers and clients . . . from fragrance sensitivities to gluten intolerance. Many companies are cruelty free (they love bunnies, so no animal testing), are certified vegan (no animal by products) and are packaged in recyclable packaging.

For those looking for eco friendly hair products, here is a list of some professional hair care lines that fit the bill:

Eco Friendly Hair Products

Onesta

This line offers shampoos, conditioners and treatments for moisture and for volume. The styling products offer styling options for all hair types, from fine to coarse, limp to frizzy. Onesta is a color safe line and that offers natural sunscreens to help protect your investment in your hair color. A perk to this line, every product has a description on the back of the bottle of how much of the product to use depending on your hair type. Onesta is sulfate free, paraben free, gluten free, free of dyes, phthalates, sodium chloride and propylene glycol. It is a vegan line and a cruelty free that is PETA approved.

Eco Friendly Hair Products

ALTERNA Bamboo

This line offers collections for volume, for shine and for frizz control. ALTERNA Bamboo is sulfate free, paraben free, gluten free and is freeof sodium chloride, phthalates and synthetic color. All the products are color safe and are never tested on animals.

SOMA

One of the originals. Yours truly was fortunate enough to be trained by the original chemists of the SOMA line. SOMA offers a selection of shampoos and conditioners for volume, moisture, color, smoothing, clarifying and a purple shampoo for blondes. SOMA has a great selection of styling products from smoothing creme to hair spray, thermal setting sprays to cuticle sealers. The majority of their styling products are alcohol free. SOMA products are sulfate free, hypo allergenic, color safe, offer UVA and UVB protectants, are rich in wheat and keratin proteins, biodegradable and vegan, and the products are not tested on animals.

Other Lines

Joico – offers a vegan alternative with their Joico Structure line. Joico also manufactures their products with on-site wind power, their packaging is made from up to 70% post-consumer recycled materials & they voluntarily offset carbon dioxide emissions.

bain de terre – the Purite line is sulfate free, paraben free, gluten free, formaldehyde free and free of colorants, mineral oil and phthalates.

AG Hair Care – offers a generous array of eco friendly hair products from shampoo to conditioner to any styling product you can imagine. AG has always been a cruelty free line. Many of their products are now paraben free, gluten free and no salt.
