Hair Stylists Finding New Customers Off Site

I’ve been seeing a slowly evolving phenomenon in the hair styling business the past couple of years. It all started a while back when I first wrote about a California salon who had set up a hair salon on wheels that would set up in corporate campuses and provide full services to corporate employees. At the time I thought it a neat idea and a brilliant marketing move. But because of the huge initial investment in some sort of RV type of set up, I didn’t think I was likely to see the average American hair salon getting into that business.

    I was Wrong

Not long after, I began to see things like stylists leaving the salon and setting up shop in a church basement for bridal parties. Along the way I heard about a salon doing free prom hair styles, by setting up the day of the event on the school campus and doing clients on-site to get exposure to new potential clients (a brilliant marketing idea in my opinion.)

Then in May, I met Corrin Allen, 2011 Las Vegas Hair Stylist of the Year, who wrote a great guest article for me . . . get this, she doesn’t even have a salon, but does very well just doing performers at the local hotels. Last August I wrote an article about Super Styled the upscale operation that will come to your hotel room and do a complete celebrity look-a-like makeover.

Now, comes hair style home parties. I’ve recently come into contact with the folks at Styletique. They’ve combined two of the most inevitably fun things women love to do . . . having a ‘girls night out’ and hair styling.

At a style session (home party) their style expert will demonstrate on the hostess new hair styles or trends. The stylist comes equipped with hair extensions, hair accessories, tools and products to create fabulous hair styles. It’s the perfect venue to learn new hairstyling tips and tricks from professionals AND have a fun girls night out!  Lately, their most requested style sessions are “beach waves and braids” and “hairs to a night out”

    Hair Styling Home Party Braids

After they have demonstrated the braid they’ll show you how to add a little color with hair chalk, or a new hair accessory, to add more character to any braided style. For their ‘hairs to a night out’ session, they will teach you and your friends all about how to glam up your hair. Clip In extension, backcombing, hairspray, and false eyelashes is what will be demonstrated on the hostess at the session. After the demonstration on the hostess the expert is there to answer and consult with any of your guests about which of the products, accessories and tools would be right for them and their hair.  The style sessions are free to the host. Plus the host can also earn rewards for hosting!

The Entrepreneurial Spirit is Alive and Well in The Hair Industry

This home party concept is the latest twist on the off-site mobile hair styling phenomenon and is another marketing home run in my opinion. Buckle up your seat belts, as I think were only seeing the begin of this trend. In every hair salon in the country their is at least one independent restless soul who is thinking up new and better ways to bring glamour and beauty to the American woman. If you’re working on such a project, send me a note I’d love to hear what your up to!
