Spring for One of the Hottest Hairstyles of 2013

Spring will be here before we know it!  With spring comes warmer weather, sandals, bright toe nail polish, the Easter bunny, and . . . you guessed it . . . prom! Now is the time to start brainstorming about the dress, the shoes, the makeup, and of course (my favorite) the hair. If you have medium length hair, you may be concerned that there aren’t a lot of hair options for you, but, take heart: there are a ton of stylish and cute prom hairstyles that are perfect for medium length hair.  It’s always a good idea to bring a pic to your hair stylist so that she can make your dream style a reality!

    Elegant Waves

Wavy hairstyles work great for fine, medium and thick hair types. If you have fine hair, waves can be a great option to make hair appear fuller. Waves also look great on oval, round, heart, and square face shapes and work well on strapless dresses. For those that are confident with their styling skills, waves are something you can even do at home. Be sure to use a 1″ barrel curling iron or larger, and lock in your look with a flexible hairspray. My go-to hairspray is Worked Up by Paul Mitchell.

    Playful Braids

Braids are an easy way to add style to your look. Braided hairstyles work best on medium and thick hair, but can tend to make fine hair look thinner. Braids can add a touch of playfulness to any prom hairstyle, and work well for dresses that are fun and flirty. Braids look best on oval, round, and heart face shapes and are complimented well with a bun, waves, or even a playful pony!

    Romantic Buns

You don’t need long hair to pull off a romantic bun! Whether you want a simple sleek bun at the nape of your neck, or a wavy side bun, this hairstyle works on hair that is shoulder length or longer. This style is best for fine to medium hair and compliments oval, heart, and oblong face shapes. A bun is a great option if you have a high cut neckline or intricate detail on the bodice. With a romantic bun all eyes are on your beautiful face and show stopping dress.

    Classic Straight

Who says you need a complicated prom hairstyle? Celebrities are rocking sleek straight styles on the red carpet with their evening gowns. If you don’t want to sit in the salon or fuss with a complicated style, consider going for a smooth down style. This style is awesome for medium and thick hair types and works well on most face shapes. Classic straight is a a great option for lower cut sweetheart necklines and strapless dresses. You can create this look at home with your trusty flat iron and a styling spray like Rusk Thermal Flat Iron Spray.

Whether you want to keep you hair simple and down or go for a dramatic updo, you can feel confident and stylish in one of the hottest prom hairstyles for 2013. You may need to find the perfect dress and shoes, oh and a fun bright toe nail polish, but when it comes to hair, we’ve got you covered!
