Lazy Girl’s Guide to Hairstyles to Tame Frizzy Hair

Summer provides the opportunity to opt for carefree looks and even go makeup-free. However, for many of us, our hair doesn’t want to cooperate. In fact, we have to double our efforts to ensure that the added humidity does not result in the annoying summer frizz. You might have spent hours styling your hair, but once you step out into the humidity, it instantly turns your hair into a ball of unsightly frizz.

As Barb has pointed out in her article Frizzy Hair Fixes with active use of moisture strategies, frizzy hair during the humid summer months can be prevented. You can also opt for hairstyles to tame frizzy hair rather than stressing over frizz when it shows up. It’s easy when you know how!

    Pre-Styling Tips

To ensure that you can fight off frizz, here are some strategies that you can use prior to styling:

    • Provide a coat of armor for your hair; hence, using a frizz-free serum is a good start. You can also try using a leave-in conditioner. These products coat the hair cuticle to resist humidity and prevent frizz from forming as soon as the heat causes the hair to dry up.
    • In addition to using frizz-free serum and a leave-in conditioner, invest in a moisturizing cream for summer. This, too, provides a shield against humidity so your hair cuticle won’t expand. At the same time, it provides enough hydration for the hair so it is less susceptible to frizz.

One of the easiest tricks for styling hair and hiding frizz at the same time is to go for a sleek hairstyle. It could be anything from a sleek top knot or ponytail, this will help to tame your hair and keep frizz from showing up. When you opt for a tight hairstyle during summer, it will discourage frizz as the humidity won’t be able to penetrate into the hair follicles. In order to get your hair to look sleek, it is recommended that you wash your hair every other day.

In addition to going sleek, styling your hair straight can also help to cope with frizz during summer. Use a temperature-controlled hair straightener. Try to limit one pass on each section of the hair because too much heat can also promote unnecessary frizz, of which you are trying to avoid. The goal is to get every strand to behave well and stay in place. You can finish off your style with styling pomade, which also helps add sleekness to your straight hairstyle.

You can also try adding texture to your hairstyle as the added texture will help camouflage any appearance of frizz. Go with a messy texture such as a beachy wave, which also fits right into the season. Simply apply an adequate amount of texturizing spray to create a textured look. It gives an added bonus of making hair look more voluminous.

If neither of the above suggestions suit you, why not try throwing your hair up? Any type of updo hairstyle will no doubt help control frizz during summer. At the same time, it is a good way to stay fresh even when you are out and about during the summer. Some of your chic choices include a messy bun or a textured ponytail.

Lastly, go for the braids! Aside from the beachy wave hairstyle, this is a popular choice during summer . . . and for good reason. You won’t have to worry about frizz when you are braiding your hair because any strands that are out of place seem intentional and just fine as is.

Which of these hairstyles will you be wearing this summer?

    Frizzy Hair Help

Woman Struggling to fix her summer frizzy hair

Victim of frizzy hair? Try these tips!

    We’ve all been a victim of frizzy hair at one time or another, haven’t we? But you don’t have to succumb to the fuzz! Frizzy hair can be caused by a number of things, such as;

    1. too much humidity in the air which causes the hair cuticle to swell and frizz,
    2. lack of moisture in the air which causes hair to dry out and frizz and
    3. 3) hair that has not been cut in a while causing split ends to split up the shaft of the hair.

Thanks to technology though, we now can say farewell to the frizz! When you need to look your best this summer and find that your frizzy hair wants to take control, take these remedies to heart, and go from frizz to fab!

Let’s start with one of my favorite products designed to tackle wild and unruly frizzy hair types. Frizz fighting serums really do work wonders to help tame fly-away strands and smooth frizzy hair. My pick? Schwarzkopf Osis Magic Anti-Frizz Gloss Serum, which sells between $14.00 to $17.00 for 1.7oz. (a little goes a long way)  It’s a great product that will fight frizz and give you tons of shine. It works just like it says, like voodoo … it’s Magic! You can also try smoothing shampoos, conditioners and creams to help tame the beast.

Another way to fight frizzy hair is by starting your style with a great blow out. Make sure you are using a nozzle attachment on your hair dryer and direct the air straight down the shaft of your hair while pulling your brush taught. Don’t forget to use the cool shot button for about 10 seconds on strands before releasing hair from the brush, it will most definitely help fight frizz, set the style and create shine, shine, shine!Wearing your hair curly? Then make sure to scrunch a smoothing serum into your hair before air drying or using the diffuser attachment. Or try a curl definer, like TIGI’s Curl’s Rock!  Also, don’t touch or manipulate the hair until it is 100% dry, or you’ll run the risk of contributing to the frizz.

Need a quick fix? Try running a dryer sheet over strands for an anti-static fast frizz fighter. You can also run a dryer sheet over your brush or comb and then brush your hair for a similar effect.

Summertime is notorious for bringing out the frizz in the best of us, so be sure to keep my tips handy during the upcoming hot, dry months so your hair can stay nice and smooth all summer long.

Frizzy Hair, Curly Hair, Kinky Hair Product Review

    Curly Hair

Curly Hair Care Product Review with Honest Product Reviews

I’m always looking at what is new in hair care products trying to stay abreast of what is going on in the hair styling industry. One of my favorite sites to surf is Amazon, because they have product reviews by real consumers and not the hair care products corporate happy talk that you often get on product reviews.

When I see a product that has several reviews and they seem pretty happy with the product it catches my attention. I’m sure all of you curly hair types will be interested in looking at this product, Phyto Phytodefrisant Botanical Hair Relaxing Balm.

If you’re tired of fighting frizzy hair, curly hair or kinky hair, this might be the product for you. Here is just one of the glowing reviews of this product:

I have spiral curly hair and for years I fought it, trying to straighten my hair with blow dryers and drugstore straightening products. Nothing Worked. Finally a friend gave me some of her phytodefrisant hair relaxing balm and for the first time I found out what it’s like to have silky straight hair. Because of the price I occasionally try other, cheaper products that come along but, I’ve never found anything that comes even close. I’ve also found that even though it comes in a small tube, it lasts for a long time.
