    Dry Shampoo…your new best friend

Dry Shampoo, Don’t Leave Home Without it

We’ve all been there. The alarm clock doesn’t go off so we are running late for work with no time to shower. Or, we just finished a great workout and receive a text that the new neighbor’s are over to greet us. Or something like, your mother has just had surgery and can’t wash her own hair but wants to spruce up as friends come by to visit. What’s a girl to do?

There is one little thing that can help reduce your stress and it is small enough to fit in your purse; dry shampoo. I know you have heard about it and maybe you already use it, but if not, you should. It’s a BIG time-saver and certainly the savior of many a bad hair day. So, what is a dry shampoo and what it can do for your hair?

Dry shampoo has been around for years and used to only be available in a powder form (like baby powder) that was sprinkled on the scalp and rubbed into roots and hair. This is still available today, but it can tend to be messy. Dry shampoo’s are now available in aerosol – just like your favorite hairspray- so they’re less mess and much easier to apply.

Dry shampoo is a great styling product to have on hand. It’s formulated to be used in between washes, to absorb excess oils, boost the hair’s body and give a fresh clean look and feel to the hair. It’s perfect for those pesky power outages that interfere with our alarm clocks and a must for any household with teenagers.

Dry shampoo is a great gift idea. It comes in handy for just about anyone; for someone recovering from surgery to a new mom that doesn’t have a lot of time on her hands. Just spray it onto the scalp, rub it in a bit and VOILA!, no more greasy roots, no more untamed locks. It really is that easy. Do wash your hair though in between each couple of uses (to keep product build up at bay).

There are a lot of good dry shampoo’s on the market and almost all professional salon brands offer a dry shampoo. The following are dry shampoo’s that I have used personally and are popular with my clients and customers.

Quantum Refresher – an invisible dry shampoo (no powder residue) it’s awesome for brunette/black hair and it brushes out easily.

AG FastFWD – a cruelty free line (no testing on bunnies.) No CFC aerosol – environmentally friendly and it brushes out easily.

KMS Hairplay Makeover Spray – smells like the beach and brushes out easily.

Big Sexy Hair – Volumizing Dry Shampoo – adds volume and texture and U.V. protection an awesome product to use for teasing.

Joico Instant Refresh – a fast drying spray that brushes out easily without leaving a white residue. Adds volume and lift.

Dry Shampoo can give you one less thing to worry about, and one less thing is always a good thing.

    Hair Care Product

New “Being Sensible” line at a Sensible price!

Just got the word about this new professional hair care product line by Rusk, called ‘Being Sensible,’ to be launched in October in salons across the country . . . at dirt cheap prices!

Rusk’s new ‘Being Sensible’ line of professional quality hair care products (Rusk’s signature) will be at completely affordable prices. The line includes three 20 oz shampoos, a Moisturizing Shampoo, Bodifying Shampoo and Nourishing Shampoo and one conditioner, Balancing Conditioner, each retailing for only $7.99! That’s a bargain!

TIGI Rockaholic All Access Go Anywhere Shampoo Bar 3.53oz. is a big stress reducer for those of you who need to measure out liquids before hopping on a plane. I know most hotels have shampoo and conditioner now, but don’t you always feel you need to carry some anyways? Depending on where you’re staying, it’s not always certain there will be some user-friendly products on hand for your hair needs.

Thanks to the folks at TIGI we now have this shampoo + conditioner bar that makes life just a little bit easier. Throw it in your gym or overnight bag and your good to go. The bar is infused with sage leaf, sandlewood and henna . . . of which the first two have a great aroma! (However, my memory of the smell of henna for coloring hair, is not an especially good one.) It will cost about $10.00 to $12.00 if you get it online, including shipping. I haven’t been able to find any reviews on it to pass along to you.  And I haven’t picked one up for myself yet but I’m going to be sure to do that before my next trip!

Easy Hair Product Guide for Hair Types

Hair products for every hair type

Hair Type is Really Important in Choosing Hair Products

Lost in the myriad of hair products that promise to make your hair look spectacular and ultra seductive? Narrow down your options and choose only the best types of hair products which will really make a difference in the way your hair looks with this easy guide.

Choosing a stylish haircut is an excellent step towards finding the most flattering hairstyle for you. However, it often is not enough. Even if you opt for low maintenance hairstyles, you still need to know which types of hair products best suit your tresses. It all starts with identifying your hair type correctly and then catering to its needs with the right hair styling products. Thankfully, the greatly diversified hair care and hair styling industry has brought a variety of alternatives for every type of need. Here are a few tips to make sure your tresses get what they need:

    Fine Hair

Those with fine hair are often tempted to load up on products in hopes they will get the finish they crave. However, loading up on too many hair products will end up having an adverse effect, so the less is more mantra is definitely applicable here. You’ll need products that add volume and texture without build up. Volumizers add volume to the roots of the hair, where it is most needed. Use enough to saturate the roots. A good texturizer is also helpful for those with this hair type.

    Thick hair

This type of hair works well with a wide range of products but it can definitely benefit from a variety of creams and pastes that can penetrate the hair. A textured haircut is a great alternative for this hair type. Suitable hair products for getting more flattering looks are hair lotions which provide more hold than a mousse, without the stiffness of the gel, so they tend to be a great choice.

    Curly Hair

Those blessed with natural curls know that making them look great can sometimes be a challenge. Curly strands need moisturizing to stay healthy and strong. There’s a variety of shampoos out there designed specifically to address the needs of this hair type and tame frizz. As far as styling goes, hair lotion is generally suited for curly hair. As far as hairspray goes, you are better off choosing a light hold product which won’t make your curls crunchy. A spray gel is an equally fabulous option if you’re looking for an upgrade for hair spray.

    Wavy Hair

Wavy hair is often subjected to many of the problems that curly girls have. To tame flyways, you can definitely benefit from choosing a styling cream, shampoos and conditioners marketed for curly hair. To block humidity and minimize frizz, look for a silicone based hair product and for extra oomph look for volumizers.

    Colored/Chemically Processed Hair

If you’ve experimented with a lot of hairstyles, chances are your tresses have definitely felt the burden that comes with a lot of experimenting. Avoiding heat as much as possible is key to restoring the health of your mane. If you’ve finally found your perfect shade, make sure to maintain it and keep it looking perfect for as long as possible. Products specifically designed with moisturizing conditioners for colored hair are your best bet when it comes to proper hair care.
