Heat Protectant Strategies for Your Hair
Heat . . . Your Hair’s Worst Enemy
One of the most damaging things you can do to your hair is to style it with heat. But with straightening irons, hair dryers, and curling irons being so popular, steering clear of them just isn’t realistic. Instead, here are a few heat protectant tips:
1. Wait Until Dry
Always wait until your hair is completely dry before straightening or curling it. Either let it dry naturally or use a hair dryer.
2. Products With Adjustable Temperature
Look for heat styling tools that allow you to adjust the temperature. For instance, when curling or straightening your hair, turn the temperature down and definitely don’t use the maximum setting. This will reduce the stress on your hair.
Additionally, when you are blow drying your hair try to use the warm setting rather than the hot setting. Some hair dryers even offer a cool setting, which is ideal.
3. Use A Spray-On Conditioner
There are many spray-on conditioners on the market that are heat protectants; there are even moisturizers for your hair that will protect against heat damage. They are usually called Thermal Protection sprays.
4. Give Your Hair A Break
Sure, it’s nice to have those gorgeous straight locks or lush looking curls, but try to give you hair a break in between. Instead of using hot tools to style your hair each and every day, try to use them every other day instead.
5. Invest In A Deep Conditioning Treatment
Look for a treatment that can you massage into your hair and leave it on for the specified amount of time before washing it out. For extra conditioning benefits, after massaging the treatment into your hair wrap a towel around your head while it’s working. This will actually warm up your scalp and make the treatment even more beneficial and noticeable.
6. Ceramic Plates
Look for curling irons and straightening irons that use ceramic plates as these are less damaging on your hair.
7. Holding the Hair Dryer
When hair drying your hair, be sure to hold it 15-20 centimetres away from your head in order to avoid burning those tresses.
While it’s great to have perfectly styled hair, usually this look is only possible through the use of hot tools that can damage your hair. If you’re looking for safe heat styling tools, I recommend Hersheson’s hair accessories. By following these simple tips you’ll ensure that your hair receives the heat protectant strategies with the least amount of damage possible.
