6 Gray Hair Looks Worth Stealing

    Hair Colour Trends

    Gray hair colour ideas flourish!

Hair colour trends are not for the timid or the shy. Of course, if you are timid or shy when it comes to delving into a new hair colour trend, you always have the option of updating your hair colour in a tonal range that is a bit more subdued. A good hair colorist is able to work with new hair colour ideas and alter them to fit a variety of client’s preferences.

New hair color trends inevitably entail shades of reds, brunettes and blondes, but for today we’ll stick with shades of gray hair colour that are showing up on runways, models and celebrities across the world. Gray hair is being seen in a variety of hues and varying shades of stone, ash and silver. For those who feel a bit bolder, they can accent the gray with light blue, pale pink or lilac.

This summer and fall fashion tycoons and celebrity hairdressers are teaming up to pump up the gray strands. Love this shabby chic loose, side braid and side swept over-grown bangs with grayed out strands throughout.

Meryl Streep never looked better than in her role as Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada. I’m a big fan of Meryl’s and I think this hairstyle with this hair colour was spectacular on her!

    Trend Alert: Dark Roots

    Brittany Snow with Dark Roots

Forego Root Touch Ups For a While . . . Dark Roots are Hot!

If you have an appointment to have your dark roots touched up by your local hairdressers, save the $60 according to the hot celebrity hairdressers like Ken Paves. Frédéric Fekkai, hairdressers are calling it “root shading” and charges $265 and of course you can buy wigs with dark roots hair if you shop around.

    “hairdressers are calling
    it root shading”

Dark roots or root shading is the latest Hollywood hair style trend. The media is all atwitter over this one, I’ve seen stories on Entertainment Tonight, People Magazine and now this article from the Los Angeles Times all talking about the latest craze “Dark Roots”. It seems that celebrity hair style watchers have seen: Jessica Simpson sporting them lately, as have Nicole Richie, Drew Barrymore, Ashlee Simpson, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and Amanda Bynes, Heather Graham, Devon Aoki and Madonna all with dark roots recently.

I’m not sure I like the trend myself, I think as a culture we are going swinging too far away from center on the casual look trend. Last Friday I went out for an annual outing with some friends. We’ve made this a dress up event and have been going to upscale trendy restaurants. At a nearby table we had a gentleman who wore jeans, a flannel shirt (not tucked in) and a camouflage baseball cap. We lamented the loss of the days of mandatory coat and tie. There is just something about the way we feel as humans when we are all dressed up, it makes us act a little more civil and cosmopolitan.

Oh well . . . I’m sure I’ll get some comments on this one from those of you who disagree, so have at it.

    Ombre Hair Extensions in 3D

Four strands of ombre hair extensions

Ombre hair extensions with a twist!

These new 3D Strand FX ombre hair extensions by Great Lengths are something a bit more novel in the look of hair extensions. These extensions will give a three-dimensional ombre color effect when combined with your regular base color. The 3D Strand FX collection comes in 4 jewel tones which won’t fade and transition in hue from top to bottom.

    • Sapphire – a pastel blue base changing into jewel blue at ends
    • Ruby – a pastel pink base changing into jewel red at ends
    • Emerald – a mint green base changing into jewel green at ends
    • Amethyst – a pastel purple base changing into jewel purple at ends

Jewel toned hair and extensions may be considered a bit radical by some, but as this trend continues it’s taken on a softer, more user-friendly side. These pure pigment tones have changed from the initial neon pinks, purples, blues and greens to softer pastels and are more acceptable to more people. Although a full head of jewel toned funky hair color isn’t on most’s to-do list, the new ombre hair extensions will no doubt be a trend we’ll be seeing more of.

These strands by Great Lengths are made from 100% human hair which has been painstakingly dyed by professionals to transition in color from tip to end. Another unique quality to these extensions is they are colorfast. This means they won’t fade like normal hair color.  The patented process of removing the pigment from the hair involves no bleach or ammonia derivatives. The original color is completely removed and textile dyes are used to replace the original color.
