3 Updos Every Woman Should Know How To Do

Updos Don’t Get Any Easier Than This

Updos signify a sense of sophistication and glamour for women wearing them. Hence, it is no surprise that this is the hairstyle of choice for women for cocktail parties and special occasions because updos give a glam touch into your whole look. Recently though, updos are becoming more visible than just outside evening or white-tie events because slight change in details and styling can give updos a casual twist.

Whether you like to wear casual or formal updos, it is important that you know how to create these hairstyles so you can rock them whenever you want and wherever you need to go. Indeed, there is no other hairstyle that can draw more attention than perfectly done updos.

If you are a fan of updos, there are three particular styles that you need to know how to do.

    Basic French Twist

    The Romantic French Twist

Every woman needs to know how to do the romantic French twist because this particular hairstyle can certainly attract attention! It is simple yet sophisticated. Easy yet looks complicated. It also works for a wide range of looks and occasions.

If you do not know how to do the romantic French twist by yourself, here is a step by step guide to help you get started:

    1. Use a styling mousse or texturizing spray to prep your hair for this updo hairstyle. This is crucial because the products serve as foundation in easier styling later on. At the same time, it gives extra hold to your hair to ensure that your updo will last.
    2. Pull your hair into a medium high ponytail. But instead of securing it with an elastic tie, hold it with your one hand. Your hand will form a backward “L”.
    3. This is the toughest part of creating the romantic French twist hairstyle. As you reach behind your head, your other hand (that is now forming backwards “L”) will be switched upside down as you grab the end of the ponytail. Make sure to hook your hair using your thumb.
    4. Once the ponytail is hooked, twist it upwards in order to loop your ponytail around your thumb. This is how you create that twist in your hairstyle.
    5. Use your other hand to take the looped ponytail while you slowly remove your thumb off of the hair. Hold the twisted hair and slowly integrate the loose ends of your ponytail into the loop
    6. Use bobby pins or hair pins to secure your hair and the loose ends you have stuffed into it.
    7. Adding a spritz of hairspray is optional but it will help to keep the shape.

    The Braided Chignon

The braided chignon is a favorite among celebrities on the red carpet because there is the right mix of a chic appeal, sultry vibe and a romantic feel to it. At the same time, this hairstyle is highly versatile. It can help you achieve any of the aforementioned vibe depending on how you create this hairstyle.

    1. The first step in creating a braided chignon is to some prep work. One trick you can try is to tease your hair at the crown to give more lift and texture into the hair.
    2. Select a part and bring your hair over to one side. Start the braiding process.
    3. When you are done braiding, coil it over to one side and tuck the end underneath the coil you just made. Secure it with a bobby pin.
    4. At this point, you can do some variations into the hairstyle to give it a personal touch. You can try pulling out pieces from the sides and let them fall naturally, or you can give it a more polished look by smoothing out the top of the hair.

    The Party Bun

This is the most common type of updos and the one that is mostly seen on red carpet events, evening soiree and other such events. As the name implies, this hairstyle speaks a lot of confidence and a carefree vibe at the same time. Here’s how to do the party bun on your own:

    1.  Bring all of your hair together into a high ponytail. You can use either your fingers or a brush to smooth hair together whether you want a slightly undone look or something that is more polished.
    2. Once your hair is in a ponytail, you can start the teasing process. The trick here is to tease as much as you can so you have a bigger, fuller hair to work with. Be easy on teasing, though, so you do not end up with a bird’s nest.
    3. Wrap your hair into a coil but make sure that you give it some slack so it appears to be loose. This will help you create an enormous bun.
    4. Use bobby pins to secure the buns.

The next step is to put on your favorite dress and some high heels, and you are ready to party!

6 Updos to Add a Little Romance to Hot Summer Nights

    Summer Updo

How tos for these hot summer do’s

Everything is right, and you’re looking forward to a romantic summer date with the perfect guy, but before you can say “margarita, please” you’re feeling your hair soaking up all the sun’s heat, making your neck hotter than the beach in August. Don’t worry—this doesn’t mean you’re doomed to a boring ponytail for your night out! There are plenty of sexy updos you can do yourself, meaning the only thing that’s hot is the sparks flying between you and your date.

    1. The Braid Bun Knot

This is a great summer night look, no matter what your hair texture is. What’s great about this look is that it looks complicated, when it’s actually really simple. See these image step-by-step instructions and give it a whirl!

     2. Loose Curly Bun

Beware of too-tight ponytails and buns! While they can look sleek and neat, there’s something infinitely more romantic about effortlessly loose waves.

    Loose Curly Bun

How to do it: Very loosely braid your hair down the center, making sure to leave plenty of breathing room for your hair to relax. Once you reach the back of your head, use an elastic to separate the hair that will make up the bun. If you have natural curls, lucky you! If not, use a curling iron to create loose curls. Don’t stress too much about making them perfect. The next step is to loosely swirl your curls around the base of the ponytail, making use of as many bobby pins as necessary to make the bun round. Embrace stray curls!

Product we recommend: Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly hairspray. Spray a little of this on the bun to keep it together. What’s great about this spray is it won’t make your hair crunchy or hard—perfect for a date.

    3. Soft ‘n’ Sweet Bow Bun

Want to make your hair look like you put tons of work into it in less time than it takes for a Popsicle to melt in the sun? Try this bow bun that draws attention to the nape of your neck, which is one of your best assets you probably don’t get to highlight too much. Check out the pictures below for how to do it yourself—wrap a section of your hair around the base of the bun to make the hair tie invisible!Elastic-less Bow Bun

     4. Not-so-Standard Bun

A plain bun can be boring, but ideally your date is looking at the front of your hair, right? Add sweet touches like a braid on the side or some faux-bangs (no scissors required!) to spice it up. Part your hair far to one side, take a few bobby pins, and let your hair swoop across your forehead.

    Not so Standard Bun

Product we recommend: Scünci’s No-Slip Grip bobby pins. Stop fiddling with your hair and start paying attention to your date with these pins that will hold your hair in place without damaging it.

    French Braid Bow

    5. French Braid Bow

Try this one out if you’re a fan of driving with the windows down. A solid French braid on each side of your head will keep your hair in place, and tying the two together in a bow at the base of your neck will add a romantic touch.

    6. The Swirl

It’s not quite a bun, it’s not quite an all-the-way updo, it’s not a braid . . . what is it? In the step-by-step instructions below, see how you can turn a braid into a soft, girl-next-door updo.

    The Swirl Updo

Product we recommend: stay away from frizz even when it’s humid. John Frieda’s Frizz-Ease line offers a variety of products to prevent flyaways and keep your hair soft. We love the serum you can put in right after you shower—just a coin-sized amount in your wet hair and you can stop stressing for the rest of the day!
